Programme outline 課程簡介
Master of Science in Sports and Physical Education aims to cultivate professionals with expertise and skills for physical education, sports training, sports management, and scholarly research. The programme features in-depth discussions on topics in sports management, sport psychology and education. It nurtures elite athletes to contribute to the development of the sports industry in the Greater Bay Area. Graduates will demonstrate strong academic competence to pursue a career in sports.

This programme aims to cultivate elite professionals in Sports and Physical Education, cultivating students' humanistic quality, international perspective, ethics, and the ability to apply their theoretical knowledge into practical work. Graduates will be competent to work independently in occupations related with physical education and sports training.

Upon completion of the programme, students are expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes in terms of academic contents, disciplinary skills and attributes. Graduates shall obtain solid theoretical foundation in physical education and sports science, and be able to apply their comprehensive understanding of the frontiers of physical education and sports studies into professional practice.

How will you learn? 如何學習
Modules are delivered through lectures, field practice, tutorials, seminars, workshop and laboratory work. Instruction methods are course-based and are carefully tailored to fit to the course objectives and the students' needs. In addition, the master’s thesis is essential for cultivating students' research abilities and shall be completed under the supervison of faculty members.
How will you be assessed? 如何評核
Various assessement methods are adopted to ensure the learning objectives are achieved. Common assessment types include written examinations, coursework evaluations, laboratory reports, projects reports, and individual or group verbal presentations. The assessment rules are explicitly outlined in the syllabus. The master’s thesis shall be reviewed by the thesis examination panel with three faculty members. A candidate shall also perform and pass an public oral defense. All assessment methods and results will be reviewed by the external examiners.
How is the programme structured? 課程架構
The programme is delivered over four semesters spanning two years. It requires a total of 36 credits to graduate. Students must complete courses from the compulsory modules (18 credits) and the elective modules (6 credits) , as well as one thesis (12 credits) and pass the oral defense. The first two sememster are lecture-based while the third and the fourth semesters are for the thesis preparation.

What are the Entry Requirements? 入學條件
According to Article 3 of Academic Regulations Governing Master's Degree Programmes of MPI, an applicant shall be considered for admission to a master’s degree programme of MPI if s/he:
a) holds a Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited higher education institution;
b) fulfils other admission criteria prescribed by the programme of study concerned; *and
c) satisfies the examiner(s) in an interview (if required).
* Applicants are required to submit resumes, university transcripts, sports awards and research publications, etc., and need to attend interview. The interview focuses on candidates’ knowledge of sports studies and physical education, scientific research potential and ability of speculative thinking. The selection of qualified applications for admission is based on the admission quota, documents submitted by the applicant and his/her performance in the interview.
How do we listen and act on your feedback? 如何聽取及回應學生的回饋
Each student is assigned a supervisor immediately after being accepted through the "two-way" selection. Students can contact their supervisors for academic purposes anytime during their study. A programme coordinator also welcomes the students to drop in the office for a discussion to address their academic concerns . No appointment is needed.
Students are requested to complete the "Taught Course and Teaching Evaluation Questionnaire". The 2nd year students (prospective graduate students) shall also complete the "Thesis and Supervisor Evaluation Questionnaire". The evaluation is performed twice in each academic year. Evaluation reports will be sent to teacher concerned by the School Director with suggestions for quality improvement. Student feedback is also collected through daily informal discussions and at Student Dialogue Meetings. The meetings are held at least once a semester.
Comments, suggestions and complaints from the students on teaching quality will be considered carefully. Follow-up actions will be taken if the concerns are relevant and are within the terms of reference of the school. Suggestions will be passed on to the academic staff concerned for follow-up actions. Feedback of other natures may be sent to the relevant departments for further consideration and action.
Academic support and guidance 教學支援及指導
The thesis supervisors will provide detailed guidance to students regarding the process and procedures. Academic advising on module enrollment is available. In case of unsatisfactory academic performance, the supervisor shall discuss with the student for measures of improvement. Students are also encouraged to attend regular workshops on Digital literacy and English writing, organised by the Library and MPI-Bell Centre. In addition, counselling services, careers services and student support services are accessible to all students through the Student Affairs Office. A wide variety of extracurricular activities (e.g. seminars, workshops, exchange opportunities, field trips etc.) are available via the Student Affairs Office. Students may make full use of the variety of learning oppportunities, both curricular and extracurricular, to develop their academic and holistic capabilities for their future careers or further studies.

Support for students with disabilities 身心障礙學生支援
Macao Polytechnic Institute has in place an institution-wide policy to ensure that all student needs are taken care of and a supportive and accessible learning environment is maintained. When cases of special needs are notified or identified, special arrangements are made on a case-by-case basis with the joint effort of the programme and various student support services of the Institute, such as the Registry, the Student Affairs Office, the Information Technology Department and the Campus Management and Development Department, etc. to provide the necessary support.

The programme has a close relationship with external distinguished scholars who conduct workshop or seminars at MPI to improve students' global vision and academic capability. Industrial Advisory Meeting organised by the Programme is held at least annually to provide the Programme with valuable industrial advices and feedbacks on the performance of our graduates. As the programme is being widely acclaimed in Macao, most of local graduates can enter into full time paid employment immediately after completing their degrees. Some of our graduates continue their further studies in our doctoral programme jointly offered with Shanghai University of sports.
